Info on our Junior Programs: Air Pistol, 22 cal Rifle, Archery

FYI - These are three different programs run by three different club volunteer groups:

Air Pistol and 22 cal Rifle:

Air pistol is 5:15 pm Mondays, Jr. Rifle sessions start at 6 pm alternating Thursdays, and for Archery, please see the paragraph below as there are various programs and times.

These are individual programs operating separately - but your child - registered as a junior member at the LRGC - can participate in any or all of them. New shooters get one-on-one supervision while they are generally organized/registered in a group session. All equipment and ammunition is provided except personal protection (ear and eye protection) which is available for purchase online through the programs.

The first step is to sign up your junior as either a part of a family membership or with their own junior membership. Go to www.lrgc.com (this website) and click on the membership tab at the top to see rates and reach the signup procedures.

Junior rifle requires registration in sessions as registration numbers are limited (go to the event calendar using the calendar tab above and register online), but air pistol does not - just show up on Monday. The event description for the calendar entry has the information of each program. Please read this information before sending emails to the LRGC volunteers. If you still have a question on these two programs - contact airpistol@lrgc.com or rifle@lrgc.com.

Archery:

Juniors wishing to participate in any of our Archery programs, such as the Junior Olympian Program, Drop-In sessions, etc., should have some previous archery experience. If you don’t have previous experience we highly recommend our four week Beginner Program, please see the “Archery” webpage for more information. The “Archery” webpage is also a good starting point for general information and operating times, all other questions can be addressed by contacting us at Archery.lrgc@gmail.com.

NEW! LRGC Hours and Range Schedule Changes:

ATTENTION: Due to a planned BC Hydro outage at the LRGC on Wednesday March 18, power is to be disrupted between 8 am and 1 pm. Therefore:

1) The office and outside shotgun ranges will open at 1 pm.

2) The indoor range session will run from 1 PM to 3 PM.

3) In addition - Skeet #1 will not be available to members due to skeet lessons from 2 pm - 4 pm.

Cut-off date for registration for all skeet shoots, (including the club skeet shoot), will be at 4:00 pm on the Wednesday just prior to the shoot date or as specified in the event description.

INDOOR RANGE: Rules and Procedures

Procedures: Last Revised July 28 2025 - please read.

All indoor shooters: Masks are no longer required - but may be worn if by personal choice.

New Shooters to the indoor range: You may not attend UNTIL you have completed/passed your MANDATORY New Shooter Orientation Session. Once you are a member - please go to the website calendar and find an upcoming Saturday with a "New Shooter" Orientation Session (usually at 10 or 11 am) and fully READ the event description, then follow the instructions.

Members + eligible guests: Saturdays only - maximum 10 spots on the line. Reservations are no longer required. First come-first served. Payment online or by shoot card in the range only. Junior members can accompany an adult member and must be supervised. Shooters must have filled out and submitted a Shooter's Agreement previously.

Non-member guests of members will be permitted on Saturdays only (or by special arrangement - email planning@lrgc.com). Please download and follow the procedures for LRGC member sponsoring of guests:

Note: Go to the LRGC website calendar and click on the date to see available New Shooter Orientation (NSO) sessions. Follow all procedures in the description.

All shooters that have recently completed their orientation and are now first time shooters in the range must identify themselves to the Range Officer on duty.

The indoor range sessions have changed back to extended sessions (e.g. 2 hours) and reservations are not required. Members may arrive/attend at any point in time within the session and leave as desired up to the session end time. Spots are available on a first-come-first-served basis. Note: 22 cal or air rifle shooting is permitted from the benches. Air pistol is also allowed - and target stands can be used for 10 m shooting. Don't forget your ear and eye protection! Please pre-purchase targets at the LRGC office or bring your own.

Current typical new session times: (These can change - see calendar)

9 - 11 am Monday,
7 - 9 pm Monday (cancelled most holidays),
10 - 12 pm Wednesday, and
10 - 1 pm Saturday

Please see LRGC calendar for available sessions. It is your responsibility to check the calendar to ensure a session is available before attending.

Member Payment Methods:
(Note: No currency will be accepted by the range officers, but can be used IF the office is open)

1) Payment online through PayPal:

Use the online payment system and bring "paid invoice" to session by paper or digital copy. This is for the convenience of employing credit payments for those not wanting to use member shoot cards.

2) Payment by LRGC member shoot card at a session:

You do not need to reserve online. Have the RO punch your shoot card in the range.

Note: Pre-purchase member shoot cards only at the LRGC office when it is open.

Non-member Guest Payment Methods:

Payments accepted at the LRGC office only
(Note: Members cannot use member-only benefit shoot cards to pay for non-members).

Junior 22 cal Rifle Program: This program has returned to the Indoor Range on Thursdays evenings - see calendar for dates and times. This program is for Junior Members only and is free for them to attend. A junior member must reserve a spot by going to the website calendar and registering.

Air Pistol / Junior Air Pistol: This session is on Monday late afternoons from 5:15 - 6:30 pm.
All air pistol shooters welcome - registration is not required. See calendar and/or email airpistol@lrgc.com with questions.

INDOOR RANGE - ALL MEMBERS: Rules and Event Schedule:

Note: You must complete a New Shooter Orientation before shooting on the indoor range!
This is a mandatory club requirement of all indoor shooters - no exceptions!
These sessions are available to register nearly every Saturday at 10 am or 11 am.
(You will be disallowed from shooting until this is recorded into the club system).

INDOOR RANGE - JUNIOR RIFLE: Schedule Updates

Due to the recent decreased turnout for the Junior Rifle Program on Thursdays, the early session from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm (Session E - Early Session) will be cancelled until demand returns. The other Thursday sessions from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm (Session A) and if needed from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm (Session B) depending on demand, will continue every other week. Please fill Session A before signing up to Session B. Please see the LRGC calendar for dates.

Bring your junior LRGC member out to shoot 22 cal. rifle with us! It is free as the club provides both the rifles and limited ammo. You only need to provide ear and eye protection for all family members that attend the range. Please register online and read the event description so you will know how things are working during this still active COVID period.

Hope to see your junior shooter on the firing line!

GENERAL CLOSURE NOTICES: OUTDOOR + INDOOR RANGES

Standing Outdoor Range Closures:
1) Trap ranges will be closed to members for 3-Day Trap shoots (e.g. PITA, BCTA Provincials, etc.)

2) Trap ranges will be limited to usually one range during PITA Multiplex, BCTA FV/LM League or ITSA shoots. (Note: A practice trap range will be available for trap shooters not participating in the single-day trap shoot - this does not apply to 3-day shoots.)

3) Skeet Range #1 will be closed to skeet shooting on selected Sundays whenever 5-Stand Sporting Clays is running. Skeet Range #2 will remain open.

4) Skeet Range #1 will be closed to skeet shooting on any scheduled trap competition shoot day while Trap Doubles is running on Trap #4. This skeet range closure will be all day on major shoot days and typically start about 1 hour or so after a PITA Multiplex start time. Skeet Range #2 will remain open.

5) Both skeet ranges will be closed to non-registered member shooting for all NSSA or club-scheduled shoot events. All trap ranges will remain open on these days.

Standing Indoor Range Closures:

New members: The indoor range is closed to all members that have not yet attended a New Shooter (Indoor Range) Orientation. See the calendar on Saturdays for available sessions and detailed event information.

1) The indoor range will be closed whenever the kitchen is operating.

2) The indoor range will be closed for multiple-day PITA and BCTA Provincial Trap shoots. This does not include single-day PITA or Trap league shoots or skeet shoots.

3) Special club-approved events - an e-blast will be provided and the calendar updated.

FIREARM NEWS: Bill C21 and OIC - New Government Attacks on
Legal Firearm Owners and Businesses

Recent action being taken by the Liberals/NDP without justification or debate:

1) The introduction of Bill C21 - designed to eliminate all ability for legal firearm owners or businesses to acquire, sell or transfer any restricted firearms currently in their possession, and to force confiscation of this personal property by the government upon death (no compensation offered - i.e. constituting theft). This legislation is scheduled to be implemented within 10 days of Parliament returning in the fall (i.e. returning on Sept 17).

2) The introduction of an OIC which will ban all restricted firearm importation into Canada effective Aug 19, 2022.

As neither of these actions will affect ANY criminal activity, such as gun smuggling and the use of firearms in violent crimes, the ONLY people affected and clearly targeted by these actions are legal/licensed sport shooters!

As no one will be allowed to acquire a restricted firearm come likely Oct 2022, the ability of a new shooter to get a restricted license will be totally eliminated, putting many shooting clubs (including the LRGC) at severe financial risk as a large percentage of the club's funding comes from these sport shooters!

If you are a non-restricted firearm owner and believe this will not affect you - guess again! Because some clubs may soon disappear (a clear goal of these actions), or at best case - need to raise your membership rates even higher to compensate for the significant financial losses due these new government actions!

Don't think for a minute that they won't come for the non-restricted firearms next!

Outdoor Range shoot fee (skeet/trap/5-Stand): $8.00 per round of 25 targets (+ tax)

Drop-in charge of $20/day (insurance/day pass) + shoot fees as listed above

Centre-fire Handgun (see Calendar for session times)	Monday: 9:00 am to 11:00 am Monday: 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm Wednesday: 10:00 am to 12:00 pm Saturday: 10:00 noon to 12:00 (or 1:00) pm (Note: Maximum .45 cal ACP, no magnum or high energy loads, i.e. no .22 cal magnum, .17 HMR, Tokarov 7.62x25mm, or +P loads, etc). Special Notes
1) Due to the limitation of our RCMP range approval, only .22 cal non-magnum rifles are allowed. 2) Centrefire handguns are allowed but magnum and other high energy loads are prohibited. 3) The club reserves the right to change any of the above without notice.
